Ken attended the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta, obtaining his law degree in 1976. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1977. Ken has practiced with the law firms Bassie Shymko Hladen Sitko & Kantor and has been a partner in the firms of Sitko Braithwaite, Braithwaite Kolthammer & Vigen and Braithwaite Boyle.

Ken is a sustaining member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, a sustaining member of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA) and former Vice President of ACTLA. He has been responsible for organizing and chairing various seminars including seminars put on in conjunction with the Legal Education Society of Alberta and is a member of the British Columbia Trial Lawyers Association. Ken is a director of Advance Engineered Products Ltd. and is a director/officer of numerous other companies.

Ken is an avid motorcyclist, and is a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG).
