MICHAEL POWER, BA (DISTINCTION), LLB.
Michael was born in Halifax Nova Scotia and raised in Lakeside. He graduated from Sir John A. McDonald High School in 1976.
In 1979 Michael received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with distinction from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie Law School in 1982. He articled with the law firm of McKercher McKercher Stack Korchin and Laing in Saskatoon and received his call to the Saskatchewan bar in 1984. He practiced law extensively in Saskatchewan appearing before all levels of court there. Michael moved to Edmonton in 2001, receiving his call to the Alberta bar in 2002. He is a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan (currently non-practicing) and a member of the Law Society of Alberta.
Michael is a past president and director of the Canadian Paraplegic Association, Saskatchewan Division and has served as a member and director of a variety of charitable corporations. He practiced law for several years with Bishop & McKenzie LLP in Edmonton and was senior in-house litigation counsel with the Edmonton Police Service.
Michael has appeared before the Alberta Provincial Court (Civil Division), the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal as well as before administrative tribunals.
With more than 30 years of litigation and negotiation experience Michael enjoys achieving positive results for his clients.
Michael is married to Norma Anne and they have two sons, Jesse and Levi. In his spare time Michael enjoys reading, photography, music and traveling.
